Dive in and Declutter
Before you can dive into the joyous chaos of preparing culinary delights and indulge in some serious feasting fun, there’s one important task at hand: Decluttering. Yes, my friend, it’s time to organize that chaos and clear the way for a stress-free gathering.
Now, I know what you’re thinking. Decluttering sounds about as fun as watching paint dry. But fear not! I’m here to provide you with some humorous tidbits of wisdom on how to tackle this daunting task.
First things first, start by envisioning your space as a blank canvas ready to be transformed into a masterpiece of organization. Channel your inner Marie Kondo and ask yourself, “Does this item spark joy?” If not, bid it farewell and make room for more important things like food (obviously).
- However, If you are a bit of a hoarder (like me), then just find a closet to stuff it in for now! Deal with it after the chaotic family fun is behind you!
Next up, let’s talk about organizing chaos. Remember that drawer where everything from spare keys to old receipts magically disappears? Well, it’s time to face the music and tame that wild beast. Sort through the mess and assign each item a proper home. And if you stumble upon something utterly useless or unidentifiable… well, maybe it’s time to declutter and part ways.
Another place you definitely want to pay close attention to decluttering is all of the flat spaces – counters, tabletops, etc. Things tend to accumulate in those areas and, since we live in these spaces, we sometimes tend to overlook them. …and that’s where a lot of the pretty decor can sit!
Cabinet Organization
Since you will be doing a bunch of cooking and serving, you might want to make sure that your refrigerator is decluttered and organized…I know that is one place in my house that never stays organized for more than about five minutes. But, just this once, you could threaten your family with torture, like having to sit next to dear old Aunt Mavis during Christmas dinner… Just a thought.
Fridge Organization
Finally, clear space for your guests’ imminent arrival. Clear a spot in the coat closet so that all those coats don’t pile up in front of your Christmas decor. Remove any unnecessary clutter from common areas and create an inviting atmosphere that screams “Welcome!” rather than “Watch out for that pile of junk.” Trust me; your guests will appreciate the effort.
Make sure that your guest bathroom is stocked up with tp and hand soap and decorated with pretty Christmas touches, down to a beautiful and strongly scented candle.
Bathroom Organization & Decor
So there you have it – decluttering tips served with a side of humor. Now go forth and conquer those mountains of messiness before indulging in some well-deserved feasting fun!
