Choosing Each Other on Ordinary Days – Marriage Matters Week 1

Marriage Matters: Love in the Middle of the Mess

Choosing Each Other on Ordinary Days

Nobody tells you this part when you get married.

They talk about love like it’s fireworks and slow dances and sweeping gestures. They don’t talk much about Tuesday. Or dishes. Or exhaustion that settles in your bones after a long day of doing what needs to be done.

But most marriages aren’t made in the big moments. They’re made in the ordinary ones.

Choosing each other on ordinary days looks like staying in the same room even when it would be easier to retreat. It’s listening when you’re distracted. It’s responding kindly when you’re tempted to be short. It’s remembering that the person in front of you is not the problem. Life is just loud right now.

On the farm, we don’t wait for perfect conditions to do the work. We work when it’s hot, when it’s muddy, when the forecast says “maybe tomorrow.” Marriage is the same. Love grows because you tend it, not because the conditions are ideal.

Some days, choosing each other doesn’t feel romantic. It feels repetitive. Unnoticed. Quiet.

But those choices stack. They create trust. They build a sense of safety that allows both people to breathe easier. And one day, you look back and realize the ordinary days were the foundation all along.
