A Reminder to Rest in Jesus
This has been a very busy week, but I’ll be honest, all of my weeks are very busy weeks. Mostly because that’s how I like them! This week, however, I got a reminder that I, just like everyone else, also occasionally need rest; and there is no better rest than when you rest in Jesus.
I am a “go-getter”, a “do-er”, and sometimes a “nose-to-the-grindstone-monster”. I admit that freely. It would never be believable if I tried to deny it. And to be honest, that is how I like it. I like to be getting things done. However, that sometimes comes back to bite me.
The Wake Up Call
This week we have had wonderful weather, which has given me the opportunity to get outside and get lots of big projects handled. One of my particular problems is I don’t know when to stop. Saturday night, I was rewarded with a horrible migraine that would not go away, to the point that my husband ended up having to take me to the ER.
This is what I like to think of as a wake-up call; a reminder that I need rest occasionally–even if I don’t like it. I’ll tell you upfront, as well, that I DON’T LIKE REST. Rest stresses me out! I mean, I have stuff to do, right? However, there is one form of rest that always leaves me satisfied and that is when I take Jesus’ words from Matthew 11:28 to heart.
Rest in Jesus
Come to me all you who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest.
Matthew 11:28
These words are so significant. We all need rest, but not just in the physical sense. We need emotional rest, and spiritual rest. We need those moments where we can stop everything else around us and just focus on our conversations with Jesus. I know that the peace that I feel in those moments completely reenergizes me, reinvigorates me, and makes me feel whole again.
It is my prayer that others, who are in the same boat as me, will remember to take that time to rest in Jesus. He is there, waiting to help us all; to give us the rest that our souls need.
