When God Speaks 3 – Battle PTSD and Anxiety

PTSD and Anxiety – What the Bible has to Say

This week, when I was preparing for ‘When God Speaks’, I had something else, planned altogether, but, as sometimes happens, God had other plans. I was reading my Bible and came across some scripture that really spoke to me very personally and I know that I am not the only one who could benefit from peace in the midst of PTSD and Anxiety.

I should mention, (or maybe remind some of my long-time followers) that I am a retired soldier; a veteran of two wars. I am and will always be very proud of my service and I’m happy that I made that choice all those years ago. However, some parts of my service have definitely had lasting effects on me.

There are Many Different Kinds of Trauma

You certainly don’t have to experience war to suffer the effects of PTSD. There is so much other trauma that people go through that tends to leave a lasting effect; rape, abuse and so much more. But I want you to know that there is hope.

In the video, I go into more detail about one of the situations that has stuck with me for so long but that situation is not really the focus here. The focus is on the peace and comfort that can be found in leaning on God during times of stress and anxiety.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4: 6-7

Finding Comfort in God

I can’t even describe the kind of comfort this gives me. The knowledge that when I find myself in situations that cause me such anxiety, and panic attacks even, all I have to do is go to God in prayer and ‘present my requests’. I’ve felt that peace that comes over me at the moment that I need it most. It is undeniable and it is something that only God can do.

I implore you, if you–or someone you love–suffer from the effects of PTSD and Anxiety, turn those burdens over to God. Release that pain and suffering to Him who wants to take it from you. You will find the peace that you are seeking. That doesn’t mean that we never deal with it again, what it means is that we never deal with it alone again.
