When God Speaks 1 – Gideon

When God Speaks…

I have recently been –not ignoring God– but maybe putting Him off a little. God has been trying to tell me something, trying to get me to do something, and …… I’ve made excuses (lots of them). I came up with all sorts of reasons why I couldn’t do the particular thing that He laid on my heart. However, this past Sunday, I got stopped in my tracks! A lesson to learn (again)… When God Speaks, I better listen!

Sometimes We Don’t Listen When God Speaks

A few months ago, my husband told me that he thought I should add a spiritual/inspirational video series to what I do with my blogs and Youtube channel. He and I talk about these things a lot, as well as with our children and our Sunday school class …and, well, anyone else who wants to, I guess!

When he made the suggestion, initially, my thought was ‘yeah, that’s a good idea’ but later, I began thinking things like… ‘no, that’s not a good idea’ and ‘who am I to do something like that’. I mean, it’s one thing to talk about these things with my family and of course with my church family but on the internet?

After my initial ‘no’ on this subject, God started sending more ‘messages’ my way. It was beginning to get a little spooky because there for a while, everything that came my way had something to do with me doing a public devotional-type video. But, I’m pretty stubborn and I was doing a decent job of saying no…

Fast forward to this past Sunday and I guess God decided He was tired of waiting on me. The sermon that morning basically hit me square between the eyes to the point that I just had to give in and say “yes”.

The video tells all about the situation. It explains why the sermon was basically a neon sign flashing my name! In Judges, chapter 6 you can find, essentially, the story of my recent situation. My position was much like that of Gideon. Just a normal person that God was telling to do something; making excuses to keep from having to do that thing. Questioning, being skeptical and the list goes on. …but God tends to find a way to get His way….

The story of Gideon has always been one of my favorites. Gideon was a regular guy, one that didn’t necessarily have a lot of faith in himself, but God didn’t care about that. God chose him. He sent an angel with His orders for Gideon to lead his people to victory over a very strong enemy. After Gideon got passed his initial reluctance, and he finally said yes to God, he was able to do amazing things! What an awesome feat to accomplish!

I hope you enjoy the video and I hope that it helps others in some way…whichever way that God is wanting. It is my prayer that, by doing what He is asking me to do, others can also receive His message. My lesson in all this has been ‘don’t be afraid to say ‘yes’ to God… He is with you’.

When the Angel of the Lord appeared to Gideon, he said, “The Lord is with you, mighty warrior.”
