Family Fishing – Fabulous, Fail-proof Bonding

Every once in a while, you’ve just gotta take a break and spend some family time together. Last weekend, Dad and the two youngest boys decided on an impromptu family fishing day.

Family Time is Important

In most of our lives these days, everyone is so busy that break time tends to get put on the backburner. But, it is important on so many levels. For one, we all need those breaks here and there; time to unwind as well as time to regroup.

However, it is also imperative to show our children that they are important enough for us to take that time out, just for them. The time that says they are super important in our lives. For us, family fishing really does the job.

My husband and my two youngest boys are HUGE fishermen. They could do it for hours, days, weeks…. If they could, they would. Therefore, it truly is the perfect option for a little time together.

Tools of the Trade

Mason, the youngest, is crazy about all things outdoors; fishing, hunting, the list goes on. For Christmas this year, the main thing on his list was a ‘catch and cook’ set; basically everything he would need to catch, clean and cook his meal. So, …his wish…. (You know the rest).

Now he is completely set up with all of his fishing equipment, plus filet knife, seasonings, grill stand, etc. …And they love to use it. Mostly because it specifically gives them this special thing to do together.

The fishing that day wasn’t exactly stellar, but it didn’t matter. Family fishing time was a success for other reasons. The time that father and sons had together, doing this thing that they love, was spectacular. The smiles on their faces said it all.

Catching more than fish

We thought we would give you a taste (figuratively) of this thing they love to do. Not because we are trying to teach how to catch and cook fish, but because we want to show how something so seemingly simple can be so powerful in the life of a child…and that of the parents as well. Family fishing; a moment in time that creates a lifelong memory.
