Homemade Hot Chocolate
When I was growing up, it was pretty special when my mom made us homemade hot chocolate. I have never forgotten those moments, sipping the hot chocolate with my family. These days, I do the same thing for my kids. We even have ‘Family Cocoa Nights’!
There are actually quite a few different ways to make old fashioned homemade hot chocolate so I thought I would bring those recipes together right here for you guys so that you can try them out and decide which one you would like the best. In fact, I would love to hear which one is your favorite – or if you have a different recipe altogether!
The Recipe of my Childhood
The recipe that I grew up with wasn’t even so much a recipe, I don’t think, as much as it was just a few ingredients that we put together and tasted until it was right. It is what I have used a lot because it is what I knew.
- It was simply milk, cocoa powder, sugar, a touch of vanilla and a dash of salt. But there really are so many more out there with really rich and creamy ingredients. I can’t wait to try them all!
Healthy Hot Chocolate with Cacao Powder
From Scratch Fast has a great recipe for hot chocolate that is made from raw cacao powder, the less processed version of cocoa powder. They also list a vegan twist.
Easy Crockpot Hot Chocolate from Old Salt Farm
This recipe from Old Salt Farm is making my mouth water! I cannot wait to pull out the crockpot and get this going! And what a terrific way to do it. With a crockpot, you can just get it going and leave a ladle in it for everyone to serve themselves.
Best Ever Crockpot Hot Chocolate from One Good Thing
This is another crockpot hot chocolate but uses sweetened condensed milk in the recipe. With that you know it’s gotta be rich and creamy and super yummy!
Vegan Hot Chocolate by Purely Kaylie
This option is for people who are looking for a more healthy, vegan option. When you look through the ingredients list, it definitely seems like a healthy option and still a decadent treat.
Keto Friendly Sugar Free Hot Chocolate by Simply So Healthy
If you, like so many of us, adhere to the Keto lifestyle, then this might be the hot chocolate for you. Simply So Healthy offers this recipe that would be great for anyone as part of a low-carb, keto, diabetic, gluten-free, grain-free, Atkins or Banting diet. There is even a dairy-free option!
